Citizens United has continued to make great strides in its fight for government transparency. It currently has filed six lawsuits against the State Department seeking records from Hillary Clinton’s term as Secretary of State. These Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”) lawsuits were filed because the government has failed to produce documents in response to Citizens United’s repeated requests. We’re asking for disclosure of documents involving the State Department’s relationship with Bill Clinton and the Clinton Foundation, whether an acting State Department Inspector General was more interested in being Clinton’s friend and protector rather than an independent investigator of her agency, and what sorts of benefits and perks were doled out to Clinton Foundation donors.
